Embedded Systems Engineer

I am working with a start-up Medical Device company here in the Bay Area in search of an experienced Embedded Systems Engineer to join a close knit team to lead the design and development of a new device to market.

This will be an exciting opportunity to utilize your skills in Embedded/Firmware Engineering and contribute to a new medical device that provides ventilation support to patients in life threatening situations where they can't breathe on their own and potentially save the lives of many.

The position will initially be focused on designing and developing the official prototype to bring the product to 510k submission and production. It will be working directly with the Director of Hardware and Director of Regulatory to design architecture, define requirements, scope and deliverables of the project and then working with the Electrical Engineer and Mechanical Engineer to do hands on development.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in embedded systems architecture and hardware integration. Having a strong understanding of systems-level design will be critical since this is the first role of its kind and you will be a core member of building a product that is scalable and long lasting. Previous Medical Device experience is required, as you will be setting up and following specific documentation processes to bring the product to market (experience with ISO 62304 is a big plus). In terms of coding, experience with Python and C or C++ is required. Extensive experience in writing Python is not needed but the position will require you to be able to read it.

Making sure that you are comfortable in a start-up environment is important, and qualities such as self starter, adaptability and flexibility will go a long way. The position is also based out of the Bay Area on a remote basis for the first few months, later to be in the Peninsula region. In total it will be a 12 month contract with the start date as soon as possible.

The 3 main points that they are looking for are

  • Leading the embedded systems architecture and design
  • Hands on development of new devices
  • Writing and complying with FDA specifications
